The Sims Legacy Massive Flop

Update - Patch #3 was released on 02/12/25

  • The Sims is now able to start rather than being stuck on the welcome loading screen so huge improvement!
  • The Sims 2 still doesn’t recognize my graphics card on either machine but performance seems to be a lot better on my gaming desktop.

As a devoted Sims and Sims 2 player, I was excited when EA announced they would be re-releasing the Sims for modern systems.. even though it should have been free.

Regardless, I went and bought it, despite owning the Ultimate Collection. My expectations were to play without stutter or lag, patches or mods to fix graphical errors. What a mistake that was.

When playing the Sims, we are stuck on the welcome screen and there’s no way to get past it. The Sims 2 launches in full screen and while all the settings show up as maxed, it is evident this is not the case as I’m seeing jagged edges everywhere. Stutter or lag shows up from time to time. Cutscenes are botched; in particular, the alien baby scene.

While two patches have been released, my NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4090 is completely unsupported. For my Legion laptop which is older and has a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti the stutter and lag are as unbearable as in the Ultimate Collection, not to mention my graphics card isn’t detected at all since I’m stuck in a small screen with jagged edges. Graphics Rules Maker does not work in the Sims 2 Legacy nor is it recommended by the creators of the program.

All in all, a huge disappointment for the price tag. There’s no excuse for not play testing these games before release. Modders have truly kept these abandoned games going. I don’t recommend that anyone purchases the Sims Legacy until most of the critical bugs and issues are addressed.
