How to install Mediatek VCOM Preloader Drivers in Windows 8/10

This simple guide will teach you how to install Mediatek VCOM Preloader Drivers in Widows 8, and is applicable to Windows 10 users as well.

Requirements:

* Disable Windows 8/10 Driver Signature Enforcement
* Windows 10 Mediatek VCOM Preloader Drivers Package

Installation of MTK VCOM Drivers Process

The first step will be to unzip/extract Windows+10_MTK+VCOM+USB+Preloader+Drivers.zip and launch device manager. You can launch device manager by making a r-click on the ‘start‘ menu. You’ll be presented with a menu and a list of your installed devices. Click on ‘Action‘ and choose ‘ Add legacy hardware‘.

Then you’ll be presented with a window screen such as this one. Simply click ‘Next‘.

Choose ‘Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)

Show All Devices‘ is selected by default. Simply click ‘Next
You are going to choose ‘Have Disk..‘ and click on ‘Browse‘.

Choose the location where you extracted your Windows+10_MTK+VCOM+USB+Preloader+Drivers.zip and open it.

There will be 2 files present, so choose the one appropriate to your system and click ‘ Open

Windows 10 x64 MTK USB Drivers.inf (64-bit)

Windows 10 x86 MTK USB Drivers.inf (32-bit)

Click ‘ok‘ and hit ‘Next‘, and once more ‘Next‘. Then you’ll be confronted with a security prompt in red, warning you that Windows ca’t verify the publisher of this driver software. Don’t be alarmed and simply choose ‘ Install this driver software anyway‘.

Finally, you’ll be greeted with a warning that reads ‘The software device is now installed, but it may not work correctly’ The device can not start. (Code 10). This is completely normal, and it means the driver did indeed install correctly. Click on ‘Finish’.

Your device will show up under ports (COM & LPT) as MTK VCOM USB DA or something similar, and will have a yellow triangle beside it. R-click Uninstall, but do not check on ‘delete the driver software for this device.’ Go ahead and power off your Mediatek based phone and connect it to the pc via a USB data transfer cable. The device will now properly show up for a few seconds as ‘ MediaTek Preloader USB (COM#)‘ for a few seconds and then it will be gone. It should show up without a yellow triangle. Please keep in mind, it is very normal for the device to disappear after a few seconds. The only reason for it to remain showing under devices is if you are performing intensive tasks, such as a read back using Smart Phone Flash tools, such as the image below.
