Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

A fictional textbook used by the students in the Harry Potter book series, written by J.K. Rowling under the pen name of Newt Scamander. The book itself is written in the form of a bestiary detailing the magical and bizarre creatures found in their world. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them makes its first appearance in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The book (if paper-back/hardcover) allegedly contains side notes and scribbles from notable characters such as Harry Potter, Hermione and Ron.

Personal Thoughts:

It was fun and interesting to read because it is written in the form of a text book that is used by Harry and his friends. My only disappointment was that it felt short and if you are familiar with all of the Harry Potter books/movies, there’s barely any new monsters or creatures to be surprised by. Regardless, it was an enjoyable read, especially for someone who enjoys bestiaries.

Memorable Quotes from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

“The Lethifold is a mercifully rare creature found solely in tropical climates. It resembles a black cloak perhaps half an inch thick (thicker if it has recently killed and digested a victim)…”

“Leprechauns produce a realistic gold like substance that vanishes after a few hours, to their great amusement.”

“Having lured the unwary onto its back, it will dive straight to the bottom of its river or lake and devour the rider, letting the entrails float to the surface.”
